Many of you would know about Kim Yu Na! She’s probably the most famous teenager in Korea right now. Kim Yu Na was born in Bucheon, Gyeonggi-do. But, her skate training was done in Toronto, Canada. One interesting fact about Yu na is that her name is not pronounced “유나”. Her name is actually pronounce “Yeon-a” as “연아” in Korean.
Anyways, Yuna was very talented from her early life. She was able to win the Triglav Trophy when she was 11. This was her first international competition. She was continuously acquiring more skills and had a great strength in skating as she entered more competitions. Her greatest achievement was accomplished quite recently. In the Winter Olympics 2010, Yuna acquired 228.56 points. This accomplishment was 18 points greater than the world record!
Yuna also has another career in Korea. Her career as a successful skater has made her one of the most popular Korean on television. Big companies like Samsung, Korean Air, Hyundai motor are sponsors of Kim Yuna. While I was in Korea, she did commercial for handphones, air-conditioners and etc. Sometimes she does get cri
ticized by the Korean internet users because it seem as if Yuna is blind by money. However, Yuna does donate a lot of the share to non-profit organizations. =)
Oh, and recently, Yuna held skate shows so that Korean locals can enjoy them! However, she went back to Canada to continue her training! My information on Yu-na maybe different but, I just wanted to introduce a popular star in Korea!
